What is the Walk-a-Thon?

The Alabama Kidney Foundation’s annual Walk-a-Thon is a fun-filled family event that raises funds to support the Foundation’s programs for kidney patients in need throughout our state while increasing community awareness of kidney disease.

Who participates?

Approximately 600 individuals and team walkers who are patients, or family and friends of kidney patients, individuals whose lives have been touched by kidney disease and who want to make a difference in the lives of Alabama’s kidney patients. 

Why would you participate?

Kidney disease is rampant in Alabama, particularly among African-Americas, ranking our state fifth in the nation for occurrence.  Many patients live at or below the poverty level due to the devastating effects of this chronic illness. By participating in the Walk-a- Thon, you can help kidney patients in your area of the state!  You will be raising money for the Foundation’s three programs, all provided free-of-charge to Alabama’s kidney patients in need: financial assistance, education and support services.

What is the fundraising goal? 

With the state of the economy, Alabama kidney patients need you help now more than ever!  In order to meet the growing demands of the kidney patients we serve, the Foundation must raise $190,000.

How does the Walk make a difference?

Last year, the Alabama Kidney Foundation provided nearly $400,000 in direct support to kidney patients in need.  Two of our programs are daily living needs and transportation, helping patients with medication, high utility bills, handicap equipment and treatment-related transportation.

 Make a Difference - One Step at a Time Walk-a-Thon

Each year, the Birmingham and Montgomery offices host annual Walk-A-Thons. These events raise nearly $250,000 to benefit Alabama's kidney disease patients.

The Walk-A-Thons offer entire families a fun-filled morning, complete with comaraderie, food, live entertainment, and fabulous door prizes. The children's area features games, a moonwalk, cotton candy, face painting, and a balloon artist/magician.
