Why we do what we do

Kelly Family

The Kelly family from Anniston has had tragedy strike twice. In June of 2005, Terry Kelly was diagnosed with End-Stage Renial Disease. Then in January 2006 he lost a kidney to cancer. While battling kidney disease and recieving dialysis treatment six times a week, Mr. Kelly's oldest daughter Kala, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. She underwent an eighteen hour surgery at Children's Hospital.

To care for both her husband and daughters medical needs, Angela had to quit the job that her family depended on. With the additional expense of trips to Birmingham several times a month for radiation and dialysis, the family was in need of help. Mr. Kelly's Social Worker at DaVita in Birmingham contacted The Alabama Kidney Foundation for help.

The AKF was able to provide assistance to the Kelly family with their home power bill. "Help from the Alabama Kidney Foundation for bills, sure enough helped." said Mr. Kelly. He is currently doing home dialysis and his daughter Kala was able to attend graduation ceremonies with her class.
